WHAT IS ONE ON ONE FILM TRAINING?
One On One was created as a high-end answer to traditional education and workshop programs in the film industry. This is custom training, which means that each client who comes into the program works off an individually designed syllabus.
We meet and look at where you are right now, what your goals are, what your experience is, then create a program specifically for you.
The program is designed to take you to a point in your career where you can step on set and know exactly what to do, what is going on around you, what everyone does, how to manage a production and, most importantly, to know exactly how to move and prepare the actors and camera to best tell your story.
The training is individual, you and an instructor working together; no other students, no distractions, all the attention focused on you. We work on all aspects of filmmaking: cinematography, production, rehearsing and blocking, post, prep, and so on, all based on your interest and experience.
When needed, throughout the program, you will meet other instructors and coaches who specialize in different aspects of filmmaking and, if appropriate, tour a variety of places, including a camera rental house, post production/visual effects house, lab, grip and electric manufacturers and suppliers, and so on.
WHO IS THE ONE ON ONE TRAINING PROGRAM DESIGNED FOR?
The program is designed for anyone wishing to advance their skills as a filmmaker, regardless of the genre. We work with people making narrative features, shorts, documentaries, commercials, and music videos.
Because the programs are all individually customized, we are equally able to serve directors, writers, producers, cinematographers, editors… anyone in the film industry ready to move their career forward or anyone preparing to move to filmmaking from another career. Previous clients have included emerging directors and producers, studio execs preparing to direct, writers and actors gearing up to do their first films, theater directors and film students.
HOW DO I KNOW IF IT’S FOR ME?
The process of learning more about One On One is simple. The first step is a quick conference. We sit down, either in person, by phone, or via internet, chat, and discuss your background, your current filmmaker skills, and most importantly, your goals. From there, we start to carve out a program that is appropriate for you. Then we spend a day or so creating a customized syllabus that addresses the elements of filmmaking that can best serve you. We review that syllabus together and make any changes you feel are needed.
At that point you are invited to enroll in the program.
HOW LONG DOES THE TRAINING TAKE?
Everyone coming into the program is different, so every syllabus is different. We work one-on-one! Clients, on average, spend between four and ten sessions with us.
IS IT A LOT OF WORK?
You do as much work as you wish between sessions. The program is most efficient if we spend the time together giving you a huge amount of information and preparing you for the work you will do on your own. Then, when you return for the next session, we review your ‘homework’ and move on from there.
HOW DO YOU SCHEDULE THE SESSIONS?
Because we are a customized program, we strive to make ourselves available on your schedule. If you have a full time job, we will work with you nights and weekends. If you have early mornings free or late afternoons, we will work with you then. We are coaching working adults and have made every effort to be sure everyone has access to the program.
WHAT DOES IT COST?
We work on an hourly basis at a rate of $125 per hour. We have discounted monthly rates. Click here for more info on Pricing.
WHO ARE THE COACHES?
All the One On One Film Training instructors are working filmmakers who love to share their knowledge and experience. No professors, no newbies, just very experienced directors, producers, cinematographers, production designers and editors. Click here for instructor bio’s.
WHERE DOES THE TRAINING TAKE PLACE?
We are based in Los Angeles but these days most of the sessions are virtual, over the internet.
